The
Mission of the Virginia Music Educators Association is to provide leadership
and professional development to ensure quality music education. Virginia
Music Educators Association (VMEA) is a nonprofit organization whose purpose
is to provide mutual helpfulness to its membership and to promote the
advancement of music education through schools and other educational institutions.
VMEA is an affiliated state unit of MENC -- The National Association for
Music Education.
Membership
in the Virginia Music Educators Association is open to any individual
engaged in or associated with the teaching of music, in schools or privately.
Active
membership dues for MENC and VMEA are $97.00 per year. This includes subscriptions
to VMEA Notes, Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music. Retired
members dues are $37.00.
The
subscription rate for Notes for non-members is $10.00 per year and can
be ordered by contacting the Notes Business Manager.
Students that attend home schools may participate in VMEA events
using the following guidelines for eligibility:
I.
Solo and ensemble - All students may participate in this
event. Students from home schools without an instrumental or
choral program may participate if they are registered by their
principal through a director from a participating school.
II.
District Festival - Home schools with a band, orchestra,
or choral program may participate in district festivals. All
students must be regular performing members of that organization
and the director must be a member of MENC or pay the non-member
fee.
III.
All District, Regional and All Virginia events - Only
those students who participate in a home school band, orchestra,
or choral program on a regular basis are eligible to audition
for these events.
All other VMEA/VBODA/VCDA requirements for eligibility and
participation apply for each stated event.
