Membership in NAfME and CoVMEA provides extensive benefits, including:
-
Free professional development through NAfME Academy
-
Access to decades of NAfME journals
-
Participation in the NAfME Amplify online community
-
Discounted registration for the VMEA Professional Development Conference
CoVMEA’s mission is to connect collegiate music educators with their peers across Virginia and with professional music educators at both the local and state levels. The organization focuses on bridging the transition from college to the professional world, while offering students meaningful leadership and advocacy opportunities.
CoVMEA is divided into three regions—Northern, Western, and Southern—to serve collegiate institutions across the state. The Executive Board consists of a President, Secretary, and three Regional Representatives.
In addition to leadership opportunities, CoVMEA works closely with state leaders to help plan and execute the annual VMEA Conference in November, hosting events such as the Collegiate Recital and Business Meeting. CoVMEA also sponsors collegiate-focused sessions at state conferences and organizes its own professional development initiatives, including:
-
National advocacy and professional development efforts such as Hill Day and the Collegiate Leadership Advocacy Summit each summer in Washington D.C.
-
Chapter-based programs like Shenandoah University’s semesterly conferences and James Madison University’s Lab Band
Currently, CoVMEA is expanding professional development across the Commonwealth by introducing region-wide, student-led conferences and hosting monthly forums for chapter presidents.
